Jerome Alan West, better known as Jerry West, is one of the most popular basketball players in the USA. West has been an integral part of the Los Angeles Lakers, for whom he played for one and a half-decade consecutively in the National Basketball Association. He has been serving as the Executive board member in the NBA. After playing till 1974, West joined the Lakers as a coach and helped the team achieve higher goals. The player has also represented the USA in the 1960 Olympics, the team which won the gold medal in that season. He was also a member of the gold medalist team of the 1959 Pan American Games representing the USA.
For his extraordinary representation of talent in basketball, West received several recognitions throughout his career. In 1959, he received the title of most valuable player at the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament. In the 1969 NBA season, West was named as the most valuable player in the NBA Finals. He also received the recognition of the most valuable player in the NBA All-Star Game in 1972. West was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1979. In 1995, the celebrated player received the honour of being the NBA Executive of the Year by the Sporting News.
