He is a second-generation wrestler from the Hart wrestling family and has competed in amateur wrestling at Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College. He is recognized for revolutionizing the perspective of mainstream North American professional wrestling in the early 1990s by putting technical in-ring performance to the forefront. Hart is generally considered one of the all-time great professional wrestlers, with Sky Sports describing him as “one of, if not the best, to have ever graced the squared circle.”
Hart has held titles in five decades, from the 1970s to the 2010s, totalling 32 in his career, including 17 in the WWF/WWE and WCW. He is five times champion of WWF and a 2-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, among other achievements. Hart was the first WCW World Heavyweight Champion born outside of the United States, and he had the most cumulative days as a WWF Champion in the 1990s (654). He is the second WWF Triple Crown Champion and the fifth WCW Triple Crown Champion (together with Goldberg), as well as the first guy to win both the WWF and WCW Triple Crown Championships.
Outside of wrestling, Hart has been in several films and television series, including The Simpsons, and has been featured in several documentaries about himself and his family and the wrestling profession in general. Hart has also contributed his name to the Calgary Hitmen, a major junior ice hockey club, and has written two biographies and a weekly column for the Calgary Sun for over a decade.

In 1976, Hart began working as a referee for his father’s business, Stampede Wrestling and made his in-ring debut in 1978. He was a champion in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in the 1980s and 1990s when he ran The Hart Foundation stable. Following the infamous “Montreal Screwjob” in November 1997, he moved to World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he lasted until October 2000. Hart officially retired in October 2000, soon after he departed from the business, after being out of the ring since January 2000 due to a December 1999 concussion.
