Jesse Ventura is an American Politician, a retired professional wrestler, TV presenter and author from the United States of America. He achieved his share of success and fame by starring in the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) in his early days and then becoming the Governor of Minnesota, serving from 1999 to 2003. He was also a part of the US Navy Underwater Demolition Team during the Vietnam War before starting his professional wrestling career.

Ventura created the stage name Jesse “The Body” Ventura to accompany the character of a bullish beach bodybuilder, choosing the name “Ventura” on a card as part of his “California Bleach Blonde” trick. 

Near the end of his wrestling career, Ventura began an acting career. He appeared in the film Predator, whose cast included future Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger Ventura became a close friend of Schwarzenegger during the production of Predator. Jesse Ventura also starred in two episodes of Zorro that were set in Spain in the year 1991. Jesse Ventura had also made an appearance in Major League II as “White Lightning.

Ventura ran for governor of Minnesota in 1998 as a candidate for the Reform Party of Minnesota. He spent much less than his opponents (around $ 300,000) and was the first to use the Internet as a means of reaching voters in a political campaign. 

He won the election in November 1998 by a narrow margin by unexpectedly beating the party’s primary candidates. After that, however, even the old stage name “Jesse ‘The Body”‘ continued to appear with some regularity. 

After a trade mission to China in 2002, Ventura announced he would not run for a second term, saying he no longer felt dedicated enough to his job. He accused the media of persecuting him and his family for his behaviour and beliefs.

Ventura drew criticism in the media when, towards the end of his tenure, he suggested he could step down earlier to allow his deputy governor, Mae Schunk, the opportunity to serve as governor. He also said he wanted her to be the state’s first female governor and to have her portrait painted and hung on Capitol Hill with the other governors. Ventura quickly withdrew from the comments, saying he was only pitching an idea.
