Benjamin Joseph Manaly Novak is an American comedian, actor, director and writer. Novak played Ryan Howard in the American television sitcom The Office (2005-2013). He was also one of the executive producers and writers for the series. He is also known to international audiences for appearing in the Quentin Tarantino film Inglourious Basterds.
A graduate of Harvard University with a degree in English and Spanish literature, he lives in Los Angeles, California. He attended Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston for elementary school and middle school. His parents are both from Jewish families (from Romania, Russia, and Austria). His first live stand-up performance took place at the Hollywood Youth Hostel on October 10, 2001. Novak has a close friendship with Mindy Kaling, whom he met through writing for The Office.
