He has younger two siblings Jesse Novak who also works in the entertainment industry as a composer and Lev his another brother. Novak is a Harvard University graduate.
After his graduation in the year 2001, he started his career as a comedian in Los Angeles, California. Variety in 2003 named Novak as one of the ten Comedians of the year to watch.
Novak after gaining popularity with his comedy was noticed by Greg Daniels an executive producer and was casted in the 2005 American television sitcom The Office for the role of Ryan Howard. After doing this seriese he appered in supporing roles for the films like Inglorious Bestards, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Founder. Novak was also seen in The Amazing Spiderman 2, Knock up and many others. He also voiced in The Smurfs (2011) and The Smurfs 2 (2013) fot the character of Baker Smurf.
BJ Novak has also earned popularity with his books and his app called The List App. The app also got nominated for Webby Award but was later shut down in the year 2017.
